Collections Internships & Fellowships
The Arnold Arboretum provides opportunities to students and early-career individuals to gain practical education and training in the use and care of the living, archival, and library collections of the Arnold Arboretum. Through the following internship and fellowship programs, the Arboretum supports the professional development of those who are interested in a career in horticulture, collections management, collections-based research, and related endeavors.
Living Collections Fellowship
The Living Collections Fellowship is a new opportunity offered to developing leaders in the field of living collections management. The Living Collections Fellow will join the Arboretum’s Living Collections team in supporting significant initiatives in horticulture, curation, and plant production at the Arnold Arboretum. The program is designed to expand horizons for a rising public gardens professional through collaborative work with leaders in the field at one of the world’s most celebrated plant collections.
Hunnewell Horticultural Internship
The Isabella Welles Hunnewell Internship Program provides students of the botanical and horticultural sciences with on-the-job training at the Arnold Arboretum during the summer months. Approximately a dozen individuals are selected each year to learn and work alongside the Arboretum’s dedicated team of arborists and horticultural technologists, gaining practical experience in public horticulture, landscape management, and the arboreal sciences. While receiving a valuable mentoring opportunity, interns also engage in a formal program of instruction, both in the classroom and in the field.
Norfolk County Agricultural High School Practicum at the Arnold Arboretum
The Norfolk County Agricultural High School Practicum at the Arnold Arboretum offers NCAHS juniors a five-week program combining education and employment skills development with horticultural practice. Working cooperatively with horticultural technologists and accompanied by their instructor, students learn best practices for maintaining and curating living plant collections.
