Academic Search Premier (EBSCO host)

Academic Search Premier (ASP) is a multidisciplinary database that includes citations and abstracts from over 4,500 scholarly publications (journals, magazines, and newspapers). Although limited in its coverage of botany and horticulture, in the near future this database will include Sally Williams’ "Garden literature : an index to periodical articles and book reviews," which began in 1992 and continues to the present. "Garden Literature" indexes articles from popular horticultural magazines, such as Arnoldia, American Gardener, Fine Gardening, The Garden (RHS), Garden Design, Horticulture, Pacific Horticulture, etc.
Dates of coverage: Indexing and full-text availability varies with title. Most complete coverage begins in the 1990s.
Andersen Horticultural Library's Source List of Plants & Seeds 1990-
Available onsite in the library.
Included in this database are current sources in over 600 North American nurseries for over 75,000 plants, over 200,000 citations to current plant science literature, listings for more than 1,300 North American seed and nursery firms, and an evaluative review of 75 CD-ROMs and web sites of plant images. It's easy to navigate among the site's different sections.
Dates of coverage: From 1990 plus some retrospective indexing of post-1981 literature. The site is updated daily.

Arnoldia, the magazine of the Arnold Arboretum, offers articles, photo essays, and book reviews on horticulture, botany, and garden art, written by specialists for a general audience. Among its subjects are plant physiology and propagation, ecology and conservation, parks and open spaces, landscape design and history.
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Available onsite in the library and to Harvard users with an ID and pin number.
The Avery Index contains records describing articles in over 1,000 periodicals in the field of architecture and related disciplines, such as archaeology, architectural design, historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, urban planning.
Dates of coverage: From 1977 plus partial coverage for earlier materials.

CAB Abstracts covers crop protection, plant science, parasitology, forestry, soil science, horticulture and medicinal plants, agricultural engineering, etc. Partial coverage for earlier materials.

Garden Literature Index provides access to articles about plants and gardens. Topics include horticulture, garden and landscape design and history, botany, ecology, plant and garden conservation, garden management, and horticultural therapy. Journal of Arboriculture Index
The Journal of Arboriculture Index is available to the public; the articles are available onsite in the library.
The Journal of Arboriculture is a bimonthly, refereed journal devoted to the dissemination of knowledge in the science and art of planting and caring for trees in the urban environment. The Journal is published by the International Society of Arboriculture, whose mission is to foster a greater appreciation for trees and to promote the research, technology, and practice of professional arboriculture.

Kew Record of Taxonomic Literature
Access is available to the public and onsite in the library.
Kew Record of Taxonomy is a database of references relevant to the taxonomy of flowering plants, gymnosperms, and ferns.

Landscape Architecture Magazine Index
Access to this resource is available to the public and on site in the library.
Landscape Architecture, the magazine of the American Society of Landscape Architects, is "the authority on landscape planning and design [and] keeps the profession informed about significant projects, design trends, technology, and best practices." Published monthly, it also includes noteworthy news and book reviews.

York Botanical Garden Index to Am Bot Literature
Access to this electronic index is available to the public and onsite in the library.
The Index to American Botanical Literature has provided a service to the American botanical community for over a century, published initially in the Bulletin of the Torrey Botanical Club and subsequently in Brittonia. Beginning in 1886, when Elizabeth Britton of The New York Botanical Garden was editor, the Index has provided bibliographic data both on books and articles in periodicals. In 1999, the Index went to an entirely electronic format.

Web of Science (formerly Science Citation Index)
Available onsite in the library and to Harvard users with an ID and pin number.
This index is a multidisciplinary database with searchable author abstracts that covers the journal literature of the sciences. It indexes 5,700 major journals across more than 150 scientific disciplines and includes a "Cited Ref Search" where you can search for articles that cite a particular author.
Dates of coverage: From 1945.

Acta Horticulturae is a series of scientific and technical publications, mainly devoted to the proceedings of the symposia of the ISHS International Horticultural Congress.
Dates of coverage: From 1963.
Arnoldia, the quarterly magazine of the Arnold Arboretum, contains articles on plant science, ecology and conservation, parks and open spaces, landscape design and history. Arnoldia also reports on the growth and development of the Arboretum's collections, its plant introductions and botanical explorations, and it offers portraits of worthy but little used landscape plants.

Journal of Plant Science
Searching is available to the public and articles are available onsite in the library.
Canadian Journal of Plant Science is a peer-reviewed journal that covers agronomy, application of technology, horticulture, and pest management.

JSTOR is comprised of the full-text of more than 200 academic journals covering a very wide range of disciplines, including general science, botany, and ecology.
Dates of coverage: Varies by publication title. Each title is included from its inception. Titles that have been published within the last two year are not included but may be available on Harvard Libraries E-Resources.

Tree Physiology is a refereed journal that covers any aspect of tree physiology, including growth, morphogenesis, photosynthesis, nutrition, pathology, reproduction, evolution, environmental adaptation, symbioses, heredity, metabolism, molecular biology, and the relation between structure and function. Also published are articles dealing with physiological aspects of biotechnology, environmental management, and the economic use of trees.

International Plant Name Index (IPNI)
The International Plant Names Index (IPNI) is a database of the names and associated basic bibliographical details of all seed plants. Its goal is to eliminate the need for repeated reference to primary sources for basic bibliographic information about plant names.
ORGO's mission is to collect information about existing records relating to the landscape design work executed (or even considered) by Frederick Law Olmsted, his sons, Frederick Law Olmsted Junior and John Charles Olmsted, and the firm that carried teh Olmsted name after the brothers.
