As Visitor Education Assistant I get to promote the Arboretum to the public in the Visitor Center—what better way to combine a marketing background with a lifelong interest in trees?
In 2011, while working in Washington, DC for a large trade association, I joined Arnold Arboretum as a volunteer Interpreter. It was such a positive experience that I wanted to get more involved, and in April 2013 I became a Visitor Education Assistant. I have worked for Longwood Gardens as the labeling assistant and plant inventory database manager. I am also enrolled in the NYBG School of Horticulture with a focus on arboriculture.
Working in the Visitor Center gives me a chance to meet new people every day and share their enthusiasm for the Arboretum. It gives me many opportunities to encourage more people to learn about woody plants and understand what a unique place this is. I also help plan the Arboretum’s art exhibits, and I get to work with the Interpreters in a new capacity, as the staff coordinator for the program.
I am an avid bike enthusiast and I spend most of my spare time on Cape Cod. I like to garden, hike the dunes, and explore art galleries.
