Dropping a Course for a Refund
Full tuition and all fees are refunded if
- an applicant is not admitted to a course;
- a course is canceled prior to the start of classes;
- an applicant drops the course before receiving written acceptance into it.
Once a student has been accepted into a course or module, a student must submit a Course Drop Notification form, obtainable in the Landscape Institute office or on the website prior to the second class session. A $50 administrative fee will be deducted. The application fee of $40 is nonrefundable.
Students who wish to discontinue a course or module after the drop deadline may apply for a grade of WD (Withdrawal) but are ineligible for a refund.
Students who have extenuating circumstances who wish to drop a course after the drop deadline must submit a Course Withdrawal form along with a letter of appeal to the administrative board. Letters of appeal should include details on the extenuating circumstance and any supporting materials. Appeals are reviewed and refund amounts are decided by evaluating the extenuating circumstance and the number of weeks a course has been attended. Letters of appeal do not guarantee a tuition refund.
A symposium may be dropped for a full refund if notification is received by the symposium registration deadline.
Refund Methods
Refunds for payments by check are issued by the Landscape Institute through the Harvard financial office and are in the form of a Harvard University check. Refunds for credit card payments are processed within six weeks of the drop deadline.
Withdrawal from a Course
Students can officially withdraw from a course after the second class and before the withdrawal deadlines. There is no tuition refund. A student must submit a Course Withdrawal Form to the Landscape Institute office no later than the deadlines listed below.
Course Withdrawal Deadlines
Fall Semester: Oct 19
Winter Semester: Dec 7
Spring Semester: Feb 22
If a student files a Course Withdrawal Form after these deadlines due to extenuating circumstances, an appeal can be filed with the Landscape Institute administrative board to have the grade of F changed to WD. The decision as to what constitutes an “extenuating circumstance” is at the sole discretion of the administrative board.
Withdrawal from a Module
Students who wish to withdraw from landscape modules must submit a Course Withdrawal Form to the Landscape Institute office by the designated withdrawal deadline for the module in question.
