Botany Blast: Season Spotter and Citizen Science

Botany Blast: Observing Nature for Citizen Science

Margaret Kosmala, PhD, Post-doctoral Fellow, Richardson Lab, Harvard University
1 Session: Saturday, January 23, 9:30–10:30am
Location: Hunnewell Building
Join Margaret Kosmala, PhD, to learn about her work in ecology, studying the dynamics of natural systems from local to continental scales. Her new online Citizen Science project, found at http://seasonspotter.org, is a fun way to help study the impacts of changing climates by spotting seasonal features of plants. Kosmala’s work is particularly focused on how natural systems respond to human actions, such as climate change, accidental introduction of exotic species, fragmentation, and active management. Come learn about using long-term and large data sets, novel technologies, and the power of citizen science to understand how life works.
