End of Year Favorites Part 1 (of 5): Encounters with Ornamental Bark

ornamental bark_DirectorsBlog23No end of the calendar year should be without some sort of top five or ten list.  Herewith, today and for the next four days, some of my photographic memories of the venerable plants of the Arnold Arboretum in 2015.

Acer griseum, paperbark maple, peeling bark, late afternoon in December (767-94*C)

Platanus x acerifolia, London plane tree, mottled bark, in March (1984-65*A)

Celtis occidentalis, hackberry, “topographical” bark in May (356-84*A)
