The Wellesley College Botanic Gardens feature over 1,500 different taxa from more than 150 different plant families. The 22 acre park includes the Alexandra Botanic Garden (mostly woody specimens), The Bog Garden (established in 2011), The H. H. Hunnewell Arboretum (named after Horatio Hollis Hunnewell, after whom our own administration building is named), and many other landscape features. The Gardens foster a progression from an instinctive affinity for plants, nature, and harmonious landscapes to a science-based understanding and appreciation of them.
Did you also know that WCBG also holds courses and workshops in botanical art and illustration, many of which are free for members? “The Art-Garden Collection” offers an entire series of courses including botanical art and drawing, composition, sketching, research, mixed media, independent studio sessions, and more. The WCBG program also offers a Certificate in Botanical Art and Illustration.
The Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library holds a large collection of botanical art (books, journals, and photographs), both classic and contemporary, along with the annual publications of The American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA). Please come visit us and make use of our resources!
