Sheila Connor began working in the Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library in 1970, and retired in 2012 as Horticultural Research Archivist. Sheila’s visionary leadership brought the library and its collections into the digital age. Along with creating and curating the Archive Collection of the Arnold Arboretum in 1984, Sheila supervised renovations to the Hunnewell Building in 1993, and wrote New England Natives, a defining book about the Arnold Arboretum and the trees of the New England. Sheila also wrote numerous articles for Arnoldia, was recognized as a Harvard Hero in 2007, and is currently Senior Ambassador at the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation.

This photograph was taken during the renovation of Oak Path at the Arnold Arboretum. In 1980, Richard E. Weaver, Jr. wrote about the restoration for Arnoldia [pdf].
