Plant Image Search

The Arnold Arboretum Plant Image Database is a free resource of historical and contemporary images of accessioned plants as captured by staff and associates. Images detail the characteristics (morphology) and seasonal aspects (phenology) of temperate woody plants in the collections. This is a developing resource for reference and biodiversity discovery, with additional digital archives added as they become available.

Images are owned or held by The Arnold Arboretum of Harvard University, are shared for non-commercial use with attribution under the terms of the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA license, and are a collection within the visual archives. Any other use, including requests for print publication or commercial reuse, requires permission of the Arnold Arboretum Horticultural Library (email).

Join our TreeVersity (hosted by Zooniverse) community to add categorizing data to each image and share your passion for plants with Arboretum researchers. Your efforts will improve the search and filter capabilities of this public resource and add to a repository of knowledge about the plants we grow.
