The Arnold Arboretum has employed many interns across multiple departments helping with research, curation, and grounds work. One of the most well-known and longstanding internship opportunities is the Isabella Welles Hunnewell Internship Program. Endowed by the descendants of H. H. Hunnewell and his wife Isabella Welles Hunnewell—the benefactors of the administration building that bears their name—the Hunnewell Internship Program offers paid internships that combine hands-on training alongside professionals in horticulture as well as educational classes.

Internships are available in Horticulture and Landscape Maintenance, Arboriculture, Plant Production, and Curation. Additional opportunities are available for high school students and undergraduate researchers.

The Arnold Arboretum Archive Collection also holds Intern and Apprentice Records dating back to 1970.
