The landscape gracing the front of the Hunnewell Building has undergone renovations and renewals over the past century. Each change has been intentional, relating selected plants to the Arboretum’s history. The last major renovation took place in 1993 when both the building and the landscape underwent a major overhaul. To incorporate an accessibility ramp to the front doors, a berm was created and a planting design per former staff members Stephen Spongberg and Peter Del Tredici was installed. This month, twenty-three years later, the Arboretum’s curation department and horticulturists are revamping once again. Crew members Jed Romanowiz and Greg LaPlume will speak about the reasons for replanting and the other changes they are making to our front landscape, all in the name of improvement. Gather at the front of the Hunnewell Building at 3:00pm on Tuesday, March 22.
