Tree Study part 1: Inside and Outside Trees
This month we will a) focus on the outside appearance of trees and b) learn about what happens inside the trunk.
We will walk the landscape examining bark and “reading twigs.” Participants will consider the great variation in leaf arrangement, buds, scars and scales that are present in every tree, as well as various types of bark. Through sketches participants will practice making scientific observations.
Indoors, we will make models of the inside of a tree using everyday materials, and discuss ways to use models with students.
As always, resources and strategies for working with children in the outdoors will be shared and discussed.
Free and open to the public. Call 617.384.9032 for more information.
