From flowers and fragrance to fruits and textures to the bare bones of winter’s deciduous plants, the Arnold Arboretum is a dynamic landscape throughout the year! Come for a tour led by our knowledgeable docents and dedicated staff to experience the Arboretum in a new light.
Tours are geared toward the general adult visitor. Meet in front of the Hunnewell Building unless listed otherwise. Registration is requested for theme tours. All free tours are for individuals. Groups should request a private tour, see below.
Our regular free tour season is ongoing with Saturday and Sunday tours 10:30am and 1:00pm respectively. Week-day tours resume this month on September 5th. Through October, they are Mondays and Thursdays at 10:30am, except for holidays. Enjoy a 90-minute walk through the landscape as it heads into fall with maturing fruits on trees and shrubs. These tours are free, no registration is necessary. Check the calendar for additional tour times. Our private tours are perfect for groups of more than 4 or 6.
A number of theme tours are worth looking into in September. The first Tuesday is our monthly Seed to Tree tour. On September 7, come learn the differences between Angiosperms and Gymnosperms and on September 8, you can discover the differences between plants in our bonsai and penjing collection and their counterparts in the landscape with Bonsai Matching. Bird Walks on three September Saturdays catch migrating birds, as well as those that stay on through the winter. Our Research and Administration building, Weld Hill, will be the focus of a tour September 16, while a Research in the Collection tour is September 28. A tour on Invasives, Exciting Introductions or Stealth Invaders will bring September to an end on the 29th. Registration is required and limited for theme tours.
